Dear RL Scoobie dog and Ponky Cat!

When I say move, it means go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two of you in the way.

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack.Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help, because I fall faster than you can run.

We cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs and cats sleeping, they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, try to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. In addition, I have been using bathrooms for years, canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog's butt. I cannot stress this enough. It would be such a simple change for you.

To pacify you I have posted the following message on our front door:

Rules for Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and Like to Complain About Our Pets:

1. They live here. You don't.
2. If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
3. I like my pet a lot better than I like most people.
4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and doesn't speak clearly.
5. Dogs and cats are better than kids. They eat less, don't ask for money all the time, are easier to train, usually come when called, never drive your car, don't hang out with drug-using friends, don't smoke or drink, don't worry about buying the latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, don't need a gazillion dollars for college, and if they get pregnant, you can sell the results.

This layout is mainly a "Just because" layout, but I also had the Basic Grey Weekend Challenge in mind when I created it. The challenge goes like this: Double up! Use papers/embellishments from at least two BasicGrey lines, two photos and a two word title.

I might have stretch the challenge a tiny, little bit by using embellishments from other manufactorers, but the challenge didn't say I couldn't, did it? The papers are from the Picadally line and the Little Black dress line. The rest is non BG items. But in addition to having papers from two difefrent lines, I do have two photos and a two word title!

Today I have at least 5 things I want to say to you. I am no Hemingway, so I probably will not get any Nobel litterature prize for this blog post: I just give you a list of what I have on my mind. Here we go:

I got a moment of some extra mojo this week. I was browsing through photos from last summer to see if there was anyone I had forgotten to scrap. I found this photo of DS9 at sailing practise, learning how to handle the situation if the boat flips. I strongly believe he think this was the most amusing part of sailing...

Oups, my second blog post today *blush* Well, I guess that's part of the blogging and scrappy life: some days you have plenty of to say, other days nothing.

My first post today was introducing MyScrapbook Nook New Year Crop's fourth challenge. This post is beacause a new sketch is up at Creative Scrappers. And if you are curious about my newly renovated scrap room, I put up a blog post about it yesterday.

I got my hands on the photo from 1984 in the layout below a few weeks ago, and fun memories popped up. Ohhh, I was young and beautiful and soooooo cool. Just like today: still young, beautiful and so cool *lol*

Here are me and my friends getting ready for the graduation celebrating in May - may be the most important happening in any Norwegian teenager's life....

Did I tell you we bought a new budgie for DS9 for Christmas? One of the budgies he got in October died, and we wanted the remaining one to have a friend. The new budgie, Fluffy II is about 10-11 weeks old and we have worked a lot with her to get her tame. We're doing fine, as you can see in this layout.

My Scrap Room Is Done

I have had my own scrap room/work space for years. I swapped room with oldest son some years ago and really, the Thomas The tank Engine didn't bother me to much.

Slowly my space was invided by the rest of the family: DS9's creative stuff, hubby's old computer stuff etc etc. And this is what it looked like late this fall:

Mess, mess, mess...

I decided to kick everybody out and to renovate the room. The desks have been following us through a number of houses and moves over the past years, customized every time to fit the new room and they were really in a bad condition. I decided to keep the shelves, picked out the wall papers I wanted and moved all this mess out in our living room. Then I started tearing down the old wall papers.

Horrible, isn't it

I'm no fan of renovating - I hate the mess that follows. But I was happy when it was done.
I'm home officing in periodes and it's great to have a desk so big that there are room for both scrapping and having an extra computer in there. Right now I have an out of home office, and I'm happy all the space can be used for creative activities only.

The old shelves didn't work out with the new colors and furniture, so I headed back to IKEA to by new, deeper ones. I deceided to put up doors on the shelves to make the room have a more uniform look.

I kept the black chair - it's my dog's favourite place

I admit it, I'm spoiled.

And the rest of the family? They have equaly sized rooms, even the hubby, so I don't feel much sorry for them...

I want snow!

We have no snow! It's horrible!

I hate grey winters like this - all the dirt we drag in instead of clean snow and there is so little to do outdoors: it's too cold to go biking or fishing (like I would go fishing anyway), but not cold enough to have ice on the ponds so we could go skating. Let's hope the next weeks will bring some f that lovely white stuff called snow - but it doesn't look good according to the weather forecast.

Due to lack of snow, I put my kids and two of their friends in the car last week and drove us up in the mountains where we could find some. We all went skiing, but DS9 had brought his Snow Scoot and got a chance to try it out. I promise, it wasn't as easy as it looks: DS9 was kind enough to let me try. may be some other time, with less icy slopes.

I can't believe 2011 is over in a few hours. There has been some downs this year, off course, but I survived them all - and grew strength from them. And there has been opportunities, too - like every other year. I'm very excited to see what 2012 will bring!

As a farewell with the old year, I'm giving you the last layout I made this year (honestly, this is is not completely true, but it's the newest one I can share: you will get the other ones over the next weeks). It's from Christmas Eveneing when all the presentents were opened and my kids cooperated to assemble their lates toys - Snow Scoots. For those who doesn't know what this is, it looks like kick bikes, but with skis instead of wheels.

My top 10 creations in 2011

I'm sure I'll scrap a few more layouts this year, but I still dare to pick my ten favs for this year.

Picking just ten was as hard this year as any year. I love all my creations for one reason or another: it could be the photos, the design, the color combo, because it is an Out Of The Box creation - anything. But I have picked ten and here they are, in cronological order by when they were made.

Because of the splash of green on the black and white, and the mix of papers and embellishments

Christmas Traditions!

Merry Christmas, all of you!

Are you still hanging in there? And your kids, how are they doing now that the big excitement is over. Mine are doing well, but I sure wish we had some snow, so we could test our new presents, skis and Snow Scoots. You have never heard about Snow Scoots? Check it out here, it looks so much fun. I didn't get my own, but I'm sure one of the kids will let me try. Actually, I'm taking them up in the mountains the day after tomorrow so we can test it! And yes, I'm bringing the camera. You do want to see me hurt bad, dont you? He, he.

The weeks before Christmas was extremely busy at our house, with work taking too much time. It's hard to get the spirit when you have your nose far down in a pile of papers. But we still managed to do some of the things we do for preparations, like the Tree Hunt.

I discovered too late that the Journaling Criteria was to scrap about Christmas Day traditions, but I like the way this layout turned out, so I give it to you anyway. And as the journaling is so small that you can't read it on screen, I could have lied and said the journaling was: "Christmas day: the smell of a fresh tree we have hunted ourself, makes you realise it's Christmas. A long brunch and just chilling, maybe trying out the new presents, that's our Christmas Day."

But as I don't lie, you get the true journaling...The journaling says "We counted and found out this is the seventh year in a road we gather kids and dogs and go tree hunting with Roger and Therese. You create your own traditions, right?". For the record, we hunt the tree in the woods, not on the mall parking lot *lol*

Creative Scrappers Sketch 187

It's up today, this way cool sketch by Kristine Davidson.

It might look a bit challenging at first sight, but I promise: as soon as you start working with it, it's pure fun - well balanced and great for three photo layouts. Actually, I have some more ideas for it, so I want to use it again - I just need some time to scrap. May be during the Christmas holidays? I'm taking a week off work, so there might be a chance :-)

Here is my take on the sketch, a layout about DS9's creativity. It might be in his genes, becuase he is a real master with paper. give him a pair of scissors, some papers and some glue and paper, and he is in heaven. On these photos he's making a 3D papers air plane.

Yes, those lolipop stickers are real :-)

So far this winter have been unusually warm. I found this pansy blooming in the garden just three weeks ago. Since then we have had some colder days, and a tiny cover of snow, but it's looking like it's going to rain again later this week. Blah!

My journaling goes like this: "December - the months which is too long for the children as Christmas never seem to come fast enough. For the adults Christmas often comes too quicly. Advent Calendars, an idea - and a winner :-)

If you have followed the Nook Blog, where we are hosting a fab Advent Calendar, or mine, you might have noticed I show a new tag each day. Here is today's tag:

Actually, I'm making tags for my kids Advent Calender 2012! It feels great to be prepared for next Christmas already *lol*. I made calendars for my kids three years ago, but the drawers are so small, that it's hard to find items that fits. They get things they need in their calendars, like rulers and boxers, but even that kind of stuff doesn' fit. So I came up with the tag idea.

Tags are perfect because they are so versatile. You can attach them to items like paper bags and envelopes, or you can write messages on them: It could be that the gift of the day is something we'll do that day, not a toy! Tags are perfect because you can make them of scraps. I have a box full of Christmas related scrap supplies and I'm sure I could make more than one set of tags if I wanted to. Here is a few tips:

Make all the tags the same size for a uniform look. Mine are all 2 1/2" x 4".
Keep them simple. I have one basic design and to just some small changes for each tag. Reinventing the wheel every day will exhaust you
Don't make all 25 (or 24 for some of us) at once. You will get bored! Make like 5 at a time, take a break, and make another five another day.

Hi.

Have you done with your Christmas shopping yet? I haven't even started....
And your Christmas decorations, are they up? Mine are not... Well, that said, In Norway most of us don't put up the tree until the last days before Christmas. Fresh trees shred and look awful at Christmas if you put them up too early.

But we do love advent calendars and most homes have more than one: one for each kid - and some times one for the hubby, too. I don't think I ever have hear of a man putting up one for his wife.... Urgh!
Let me tell you a secret: I have planned next year's calender for my kids already. In fact I have started making it. I'll do a post about it tomorrow.

So what have I been up to lately?

Fetching wood for the next winters!

So far this winter has been extremely mild, but remembering so well the previous two, and having fire wood just enough for this one, I found it best to stock up. So last Sunday I brought the kids, the FIL, the hubby and the dog, and filled up a tractor trailer with ready chopped wood. Hard work, but so worth it. The wood is now drying up in a nice looking pile in our yard.

A christmas card and a fun Advent Calender

I can’t believe it’s no more than a month until Christmas! Where I live in Norway, we have had a very unusual start on the winter season, with temperatures above the freezing point every day and hardly cold nights. The grass is green, and the pansies still blooming, and it’s hard to get the season spirit. But there is one thing that never fails, and always takes me there, and it’s the advent calenders!

We in MyScrapbookNook DT thought it would be nice to do something together with our readers this last month before Christmas and we invite you all to be a part of our Advent Calender. Here is how it goes:

I have been busy with a big reno of my scrap room (photo's to come in a later blog post), but I have finally made my first Christmas Card this season. The Echo Park's Times and Season collection, featured in the Nook's November kit, is actually not a Chrismas collection, but I found the colors and patterns perfect for making a Christmas card anyway.

November Color Challenge - and a sad layout

Hi!

Katarina picked the colors and the images for My Scrapbook Nook's November Color challenge. Aren't these colors lovely, and the images happy?

Sunday was a sad day at our house. DS9 has had his budgies for abouth a month, but on Friday Fluffy didn't look too healthy and on Saturday we found her dead in her cage. She is now burried in our garden in a lovely coffin DS9 made for her from a shoe box.

DS9 begged me to take a photo of him crying so "he could have a memory of this sad day": He is such a sweet boy. And off course I did when he wanted me to, and he said the layout I made with the photo is beautiful and sad. Did I say he is a sweet boy?

My Scrapbook Nook November kit is perfect for this color challenge, but as mine had,'t arrived yet on Saturday, I decided to play along by using some papers and embellies from my own stack: This is mix of Glitz Design and Fancy Pants papers, embellishments from Glitz design and Prima.

Scrap lift with a twist

Do you ever scrap lift?

I don't think I do it often enough! I've done it a few times and there is so much to learn from it: design, use of colors, details, tecnique etc. You really don't have to scrap lift the entire layout you know, picking a few elements can be enough to pick up a few new things.

Over at MyScrapbookNook we have a monthly happening where we feature one of our forum members and challenge the members to find inspiration from the layout and create their own layout from this.

This time we made a twist:

The DT made some examples from the sketch, we didn't know which layout Kim had picked, and here is mine, made with the fabolous October kit.

The burlap banner is simply made of the same burlap stripe you see on the left side of the layout.

Do you, like me, have school photos lying around? Do you, like me, find them hard to scrap? I don’t know if it is the size they come in, they are often so big, the colors, the theme…

Here, we all get a copy of a group photo, too, when the kids are 1th graders. I must admit I was very disappointed when we got a collection of portrait photos instead, when my oldest son was six. It has hung in his room until now, but when we did a renovation there two weeks ago, I decided to scrap it – the kid is now a 7th grader and find this photo not very decorative any more *lol*

Over at MyScrapbooknook I have a class where I share with you how you can make a portrait collection like this a little more interesting by transforming it to images perfect for a two pager.

So we might have had the worst summer weather ever this year, but the fall has been lovely: good temperatures and not too much rain. And the colors are just lovely.

I got out of the door early one sunday morning three weeks ago to catch the morning light and the warm colors. The good thing about fall as you don't have to be an early bird to see the sun rise *lol*

The last weeks has been extremely stressfull at work - don't even get me started on the reason why. It has been so bad that I haven't slept very well at nights, I haven't been social at all, and I have had no energy to scrap or do anything creative.

They say "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger", and as I am still alive and the crazyness seem to have come to an end, I must be stronger, too - how nice to know *lol*

The urge to scrap returned, and to get my mojo flowing while waiting for MyScrapbooknook's October kit to arrive, I decided to use some sketches to start with. The last two at Creative Scrappers were perfect for some photos I had.

This summer must have been the lousiest EVER! But the kids haven't minded much - as soon as it was a glimp of the sun, they went to the beach to swim. In my opinion the water was too cold, but they didn't agree and define this summer as one of the best ever. This photos of DS8 and his BFF was taken during a summer pasty at the beach, hence the title.

I grow vegetables in my garden, and pulling up the carrots it's always fun: you never know what you get. last year we had a boy carrot, this year we're having fourfolds :-)

Creative Scrappers Sketch #175

For this layout I pulled out some old Cosmo Cricket papers, the ever after collection, one of my favourite papers EVER, and played with rubons and other embellies found in my big pile. Are you like me, feeling good when it comes to seeing old stuff beeing used?

TGIF and life is back to normal. I'll be busy this weekend moving anything out from my scrap room and starting the reno process. I know it's hard work, and I'll probably not be back in there next week, but I'm really looking forward to getting rid of the ugly Thomas the Tank Engin wall paper which is there.

Walnuts, yummies and even more yummies

About eight years ago we planted a walnut tree in our garden. People tell us we are crazy as none has ever seen such a tree here earlier. Can a walnut tree survive with the cold winters we have? Well, I have a Gingko Biloba which obviously like it here, and a Wisteria which has survived for some years dispite extremely cold winters so I have a feeling there is hope for my walnut tree, too.

Last year my walnut tree bloomed for the first time, but there was no fruit. The tree bloomed this year, too, but we thought there would be no fruit this year either. But then, in July, I discovered something on my tree. And yes, it was walnuts: not enough to feed a family, but at least two fruits.

So we're watching the fruits every day, very excited to see how this finally turns out. Title on LO: Finally

How freqently, and how many times, must an event happen before you can call it a tradition?

My hubby and the dads around here has taken the boys out on an island camping for at least ten years, every year the first weekend of august. No mums are allowed, not even on short visits, and the ingredients seem to be the same every year: tenting, fishing, BBQs, swimming - actually doing not very much *lol*

I think the kids, when they look back on their childhood in twenty years, will call this annual happening a tradition.

I have been playing - Just Because

Last thursday I was on my way to Oslo on a meeting when I was stuck in a traffic jam on the highway, there had probably been an accident in one of the tunnels as the traffic was Not. Moving. At. All.
After a while I realized I never would make that meeting, so I called in and told was have happened.

But I was lucky. The first junction where we could take off is where I exit the highway for my LSS! So I went there instead *lol*

At the shop I discovered some great templates/masks from TheCraftersWorkshop. I'm not a mask and mist type, but I really wanted to try a few of them with ink or paint. So I bought two, the brick and the Butterfly meadow. And I'm dying to get my hands on the Chicken Wire!

So I have played with the Brick template, ink pads, old papers and stuff. Just because I wanted to. Just because. I have an idea on how to use the other template, too, I just need some time to do it.

Anywhere, here is my first attempt on using a mask:

The title says "Yes! Finally tall enough" and the layout features DS11, finally tall enough to take the big boy's attractions in the amusements parks, here in Tivoli, Copenhagen.

Have you tried anything new lately, at least new for you *lol*?

More pink - with a dash of green

As I said in this post, I find it difficult with scrapping the color pink. Not because I don't like pink - I love pink in fact, but because most of my scrap subjects are masculine.

But sometimes it comes quite natural. I had this photo of DS8 an my dog in the woods, watching themselves in a mirror (I have no idea why anyone would carry and leave a mirror just there, it's far from the nearest road, but that's another story). And I had this bunch of beautiful patterned papers frome the Crate Random collection - they were in MyScrapbooknook's September kit, perfect for the photo. Some of the yellow and green ones matched the photo perfectly, but it turned out quite boring - too matching.

So I started shuffling the different papers around - and found that the pink ones were the perfect contrast to the green in the photo - and that the pink wood grained pattern emhasized the theme of the layout - why anyone would leave a mirror in the woods.

Tiltle: Mirror, mirror, on the wall...

Matching green and pink is not exactly very innovative when it comes to scrappy color combos, but for me, personally, it's new. What about you, have you had any Eureka! experiences lately? Colors? Tecnique? style?

Just Scrap It - cards

Fellow MyScrapbooknook DT'er Jessy has thrown out this fun challenge:

Hey ladies! We gonna have a fun challenge today!

Show a picture of a small scrap pile and create a card with a fun way to "use up our scraps" (comes at a good time because we've cut into our AUGUST kit a lot by now) So show us what you can do! You can choose to do only one or more, we would love to see.

I wanted to make some more cards with the kit, so I completed the challenge.

I started off by using this card sketch from MME, and came up with this card:

Then I flipped the sketch and made this one, adding some twine and a star chipboard from MME Fine and Dandy collection. One of the criterias in the sketch challenge was to use the theme Friend, so this card is out of the competition, but I'm happy with the result anyway :-)

There was some journaling sprouts left among the scraps of my kit, and I decided to see if I could use them in a clever way. The mini bingo cards are from my own pile of embellies - I bought them a while ago for making cards - they are perfect in my opinion!

When I was done with these card, all I had left of the kit was some inchies. OK, I could have squeesed out some tags, but told myself Enough is Enough.

Jeg ble både overrasket og glad da jeg oppdaget at jeg hadde vunnet Skissedillautfordring nr 125. Og da kan jeg få lov å sette dette banneret i bloggen min :-)

I was both surprised and happy when I discovered I had won the Skissedilla Challenge #125. That means I can put this banner on my blog :-)

Og i posten fikk jeg denne griselekre pakken.
And in my mailbox this lovely prized showed up.

Den er bare så lekker! Men nå kommer greia: Scrapper jeg i rosa? Bruker jeg blomster? Svaret på begge er nei *lol* Mistforstå meg rett, jeg liker faktisk veldig godt rosa og blomster, men jeg har liksom ingen å scrappe om som passer i den fargen. Gutta mine? Neppe. Gubben? Ja særlig. Bikkja og katta? Jo det går, men de liksom ikke SÅ femi noen av dem selv om de er jenter begge to. Meg selv? Ha ha, alle som kjenner meg vet at jeg lever en usminket tilværelse og at skruer og spiker er mer meg enn neglelakkog ballerinaskjørt.

It's just gorgous. But I have an issue: do I scrap with pink? Do I use flowers? The answer to both is no *lol* Don't get me wrong, I'm very fond of pink and flowers, but I don't have anyone to scrap about in that color. My boys? Hardly. Hubby? I don't think so. The cat and the dog? OK, I can do that but they aren't THAT feminin even if they are girls, both of them. Myself? Ha ha, everybody who knows me will say cogs and screws are more me than makeup and nail polish.

Men jo, jeg liker rosa. og jeg har litt også. Så det ble det en layout om meg selv, da :-) Og jo større scrappeutfordringen er, jo mere forbanner jeg meg på at jeg skal klare den.

But yes, I like pink, and I have some too. So then it had to be a BOM :-) And the more impossible the challenge, the more I want to complete it.

... just because I promised them they would be broadcasted internationally if I could show the photos I have taken of them. Well they are, a kind of, but I doubt they are goung to be very rich, even if they get famous *lol*

Let me introduce you to the family we spend a lot of time with - our best friends. We have learnt to know them as their boy is in DS11's class and we have spent plenty of time watching soccer games together, beeing on field trips - but also by having BBQs together and just beeing friends. A few years ago DS11 had issues with staying over night at other people's houses, but with this family he felt safe and comfortable. He loves the mum's tea, say's the little sister "is OK", claimes the dad is a real macho and still has the boy as his BF.

In the middle of august they boys had a soccer tournament in Sweden. It was too long to drive back and from each day, so most of the boy's families joined and stayed at a camping lot in the neighbourhood. And so did our friends, that is what both the title and journaling is about.

Here is one fun thing to do at those events: bring your camera, put on a 18-270 mm lense, zoom in people and shout their names! When they turn to see who's calling, shoot their portraits! The portraits get so natural and people look your way without staring. I got a lot of great portrait photos of both kids and adults, and nobody asked me to delete. Next year, when DS11 hits 8th grade, the class will be split, and it will be good to have photos of both classmates, siblings and parents from the "old" class.

I'm waiting for my September MyScrapbooknook Kit to arrive and had saved the photos on the layout above for this. But when Basic Grey yesterday put up a sketch challenge on their new blog, I so wanted to play. And on second thought: I need these photos both for a layout in our album and for a layout to give away, right? So I scrapped them yesterday, and will do them again when the kit arrive! Yeah! Twice the fun!

have you ever tried scrapping somebody else's photos?

Over at MyScrapbookNook we have swaps as a part of our activities: card kit swaps and photo swaps. Not every month, but about every second. It's fun to see how much effort our members put in making small, non expencive, kit cards and picking out the very best photos.

In August I have participated in both, and today I'll show you the layout I made with Marinette's beautiful photos of one of her sons. She suggested the title Sérénité (Serenity) and I tried to catch the feeling on this layout. Serenity is not a word much used in my family *lol* so it was good to finally have a chance scrapping about it.

Friday night date with my hot hunk!

Do you remember this post, the challenge and the inspirational post to with it?

Off course I wanted to play, and it made me finally scrap about my own hot hunk.
We have been married for 15 years and we lived in sin a couple of years before that. All those years we have been true to one thing: the Friday Night Date.

It's nothing complicated, really: We don't even go out at our dates. We make a good steak at home, share a bottle of wine and have those good conversations. It's our fixed meeting point where we update and share what's going on. I hear lots of couples saying they don't have time to sit down and talk - I state it is all about priorities. I'm addicted to those Friday nights, feel guilty if anything else more important comes up (it really has to be THAT important if you want me to skip the date) and I believe it's one of those details that keep our marriage healthy.

So if you wonder why I'm never online on Friday nights, you now know why!
When was the last time you dated your loved one, btw?

In the July MyScrapbooknook there was a hinge. A cute, but rather big, cream hinge. I first thought of making a binder (boring!), but then I changed my mind and decided to make wall calender.

I made mine with what left of my July Kit, but I also used scraps from four older kits – in fact, all four of them are now completely gone from my pile (feels great – I got room for new stuff *lol*)

Making this calender was fun and I wrote a class for the Nook Forum on how to make it. Well, it's not exactly a class, but I have written down a few tips you might find useful if you want to make a wall calendar. You can find it here.

Even more cards!

Here is how it goes: I either make NO cards at all - or I make TONS. Lately I have done lots. I needed boy cards for the kids to bring to birthdays, and I had two friends who hinted they reaaaaally could need some home made cards as a presents as they enjoy giving away pretty cards (aren't those the sweetest?). And as they often give cards to women, I had an excuse to make some feminin cards, too. Yay!

For the last months I have played with the card sketches at MyScrapbooknook. I found myself wanting to make more cards last week (hello, mr mojo!!!), so when Moxiefabworld had their Card Ideas Week last week, I played along.

So I give you both the sketches, the cards I made and a few designers notes along the way.

Shaped sketch challenge:

I thought it was a great idea to crochet around the edge. I'm telling you: I will never do it again. Crotching around a cardstock is completey different than crocheting a jacket! It took me hours! I would have been half way down the jacket in the same amount of time. Obviously, this card is going to somebody who knows how to crochet and how much time it takes!

Square sketch challenge:

For some reason, lots of Norwegian (and Scandinavian) card makers makes they cards square. May be because we are so lazy so making 6*6" card saves you from some cutting when baking the base card from 12*12 cardstock? I pulled out the MyScrapbookNook Agust kit for this card - it's perfect for making boy's card (ha, ha, it's already gone - it went out the door the minute I made it)

Horizonal Sketch Challenge:

So I had made the square card above, and was so into square cards, that I didn't even notice the provided sketch was for a horizonal card *lol*. OK, a sketch is just a help to get you started, right? - And you are completely free to take you own twist to it, right? I thought so *lol*. And finilly got some fuzzy hand cutting done (did you know I love it?) - the paper dolls were NOT die cuts.

Vertical Sketch Challenge:

Once again I pulled out the My Scrapbooknook August kit to make a boy card. So when DS8 (9 in eight weeks) is going to the next birthday, the card is ready to go. Handy, right?

Cards galore

The kids are back in school and that means going to birthdays, too. With two boys aged 8 & 11 that means I need cards. My dream, for a very long time, has been to stock up on cards, so when I need one, I can just grab it. For some reason my dream has never come true, may be because they are gone the minute I have made them. Like the cards below - they are all out of the house, even if I just made them.

Over at My ScrapbookNook, fellow DTers Ingrid Danvers and Danni reidkeep us busy with lovely card sketches and challenges. I try to participate as much as possible, both because I need cards and because their ideas are great mojo boosters. Last weekend's virtual crop at MyScrapbookNook was a big success - as usual. The theme was quotes by William Shakespeare and I chose this one for one of the challenges I prepared:

Romeo And Juliet Act 2, scene 2, 2–6

Romeo:
But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?
It is the east, and Juliet is the sun.

The challenge from me iwas to make something where a sun is an important element of the design. And I was swept away by all the lovely takes created by the participant. Pick winners was hard, I promise you.

Here is the example I made for the challenge, using the MME papers in the August kit + MME paers from a number of lines. That's one thing I really love about MME - it's so easy to mix their lines.

Just like when I was a kid

Some things never change and kids are doing some of the things I did when I was a kid: play soccer, bike fast, play games in the garden. It's interesting to see they find it amusing to do the good old fashioned stuff, not only newer invents like computer games.

I don't know what this game is called in English, but In Norwegian it is "Krocket". DS11 hates when I beat him, and it's even worse when grandpa, 78 years old, does it :-)

I just couldn't recist this handbag I found in a shop in Copenhagen some weeks ago. It reminded me of a flower with the petal shaped sides, and it's surely one of a kind. Now, all I need is an excise to use it - as I work on construction sites, and for a period have the site I'm on so close I can go by bike, a handbag is not what I use every day *lol*

This layout was made with this great sketch I found on the MME blog. I pulled out some really old papers from the said manufactorer, a line called Magnolia. Does anyone remember this? This is one of the lines I still have some left from, and NO WAY I'm giving it away - I still love the happy colors and fun patterns.

So I have had some fun making the embellies myself - pleated flowers and trims. The big flowers are cut outs from the same collection. Title and tiny flowers are rubons from Magnolia, too.

So tell me, are you a hand bag fan, or do like I usually do, just put your stuff in the pockets?

I have a sketch for you!

I am a sketch junkie - I love the way a sketch can bring me ideas and get my mojo flowing. If'm stuck and don't know how to start a layout, I look for sketches and will always find something.to start me.

When I satrted scrapping five years ago, I sometimes found it difficult to use sketches, as I had the feeling I needed to follow the skethch to the very end: If there was a flower on the sketch, I used flower. I would place the photos as they were placed, and the title would be in the same spot as on the sketch. But over the years I have learned to care less and trasmit sketches to fit my style.

While I was waiting for MyScrapbooknook August kit to arrive, I drew this sketch:

When the kit arrived there were no small items to fit the flowers on the sketch, but I found a few other objects that would fit the sketch perfectly. I have a class on how to do it, and about my thinking process, over at the Nook Forum, you are welcome to have a look.

Summer should get a speeding ticket

Why is it that I have a feeling this summer passes at warp speed? That it's gone before it has really started? May be because the start was really grey and that it's just the last week we have had nice summer weather...

Last week I met my old Danish pen pal in Copenhagen and she asked me if I still was making cards. She also hinted that if I had too many piling up, I could send her a batch. And then a neighbour did the same thing this week. Cool, I now have an excuse to make feminin cards again! Boy themed cards are easily given away in this house, but not so many femin cards.

So when I saw the cool Card Sketch #126 at Card Patterns, I decided to make a feminin card. And the sentiment was given *lol* I'm giving this card to my neighbour on Saturday - she'll be housing all the abandonned mums here on Saturday night (hubby and the other dads around are going on their annual camping trip on one of the islands in the fjord, take the kids with them and leave us poor women all alone Friday - Sunday. How sad is that *lol*).

Anyway, here is the card she is getting, with a bunch of other cards to send, made with old feminin supplies I had laying around.

A purrfect day

One who knows how to enjoy the summer days is our cat Ponky:

For her "The purrfect day is to have a full belly, summer and sun. What more can she ask for?" as the title/journaling goes on this layout.

This layout is made with the great August 1st sketch at Once Upon A Sketch. The journaling criteria for this challenge is: Finish this line "A PERFECT DAY IS....." . Your journalling has to be at least 2 lines long, and with the theme of a whatever a perfect day for you is or a perfect day that you have had already e.g. a birthday, a holiday, a childhood memory, a wedding day, graduation day etc.

OK, I have stretched the title a bit, and it's more about my cat than me, but as long as she is happy, I am happy, so I guess I have covered it all *lol*

One of my favourite color combos right now is grey + orange. I found it in My ScrapbookNook's Agust kit, and this was how I picked colors for this layout. I ended up pulling out lots of old stuff, including the background paper from BG (very, very old), and fun Sunloving rubon from MME (not that old, but still old) etc etc. I got my hands the old Ever After collection from Cosmo Cricket a while ago, and some of the papers have the same color combo - I'm just waiting for the purrfect moment to start cutting!

Did you notice the fun lollipop embellishments on my layout, like this one?

They are handmade by Charm' Creation, and I'm stalking the postman right now as I have ordered some more in different colors and shapes - I just love them.

Two weeks ago we took a short trip to Copenhagen, Denmark. We traveled by boat from Oslo, so it was a kind of a mini cruise, and then spent two nights in the lovely capital of Denmark.

In the middle of Copenhagen there is this old amusement park called Tivoli. It's a beautiful park with old trees, lots of restaurants and of course attractions like merry go rounds, roller coasters etc. And I met my pen pal from loooong time ago, Danish Hanne - in fact, we have been pen pals for 35 years!

We are going back, you bet. Copenhagen is a beautiful city with lots of stuff to do and see. Here is a photo of the entire family, riding one of the roller coasters. Imagine, this attraction was built in 1914 and is still going strong.

A winner, a new kit and a new "Cool" layout

How typical - I have my first day at work today after a three week long vacation - and the nice summer weather hit us on Thursday! It was totally good seeing the sun again, and I even hve had a swim in the sea, but we have had some great weeks despite the lack of sun. And I can live long on those photos taken during the vacation - theay have to be scrapped, right?

On my desk I have the MyScrapbookNook August kit. I had so much fun with the July kit, be prepared for some projects on this blog the upcoming weeks, and the August kit seems to be just as fun - I just love the bright, happy colors!

The Nook DT Call, new classes and a layout

If you wonder where I have been for the last few weeks, I have had vacation. And when I have vacation I have a tendency of beeing super slack: I have neglected my garden, the laundry - and this blog. I have another week off, so I might neglect the said parts again *lol*

We came home from totally fun Copenhagen, Denmark, on Friday, and was planning on doing some more fun stuff this weekend. But then, in the afternoon, the terrible news about the terror actions in Oslo hit us. I was watching the news about the bombing, when the first messages about the shooting at Utøya came - it was an absolute surrealistic situation. I completely recalled the feelings I had when I, live, saw the second plane crash into Twin Tower at 9/11 - I could just not believe my own eyes.

My thoughts today goes to all the families who has lost family members, to all the people who have lost friends and relatives, and to all people affected my this horrible actions, made by one crazy man...

With this terrible actions taking place in the the neighbourhood, it some way feels wrong to introduce some happy, exciting news. But life will go on, and we will not be broken by one man's horrid doings, so I'm writing this post in respect to all those who fight for our rights to live in a peaceful society!

Hello my friends! How are you doing today? Anything exciting on you plate?

I must I'm completely happy with having three weeks off - it's finally summer vacation for me too. We'll stay at home base for the most of the time; hubby has his new shop to take care of, and as we went to the Canary Islands in February, we have had or big trip this year. But we will squeese in a visit to Copenhague, Denmark, next week - a mini cruise with some extra nights in the city. I just love Copenhague and let's hope the kids will do to.

Fuzzy hand cutting - me likey!

Anyone who knows me would say "Naaaah, she doesn't have the patiente to do fuzzy hand cutting". Ha, ha - they are wrong. I looooove hand cutting! I don't have the patiente to color stamepd images, or to layer, but it's something about hand cutting I like - reading the patterns in the papers, making matching embellies etc etc.

The June Kit at MyScrapbooknook had some Lily Bee papers that was perfect for cutting. So I cut:

The Ice Cream Pit Stop

We have found our new favorite place - a local farm just a few kilometers away. They have the cutest goats, but more important - a farm shop and a tiny taverna. Here you can have a cup of coffee, a soda, cakes, you can buy vegetables to take home, pasta in different fun colors and shapes, spice etc etc. We often stop here on our way home when we have visited other exciting places in this area because they have, the most important for my kids, ice cream!

I have had these photos on my desk for a while, and I wanted to use the MyScrapbookNook May kit (BG Hello Lucious papers) to scrap them. Then the June kit arrived at my door step, and I got busy playing with that, but when I saw this sketch at the Pagemaps Blog I finally got my butt in gear and scrapped the photos. The flowers/lollipops are hand made by Charms Creations

Micro beads, rotten trees and a kid

I'm quite sure DS8 is going to be a scientist when he grows up - he's the kind of kid that is curious and wants to know how things work and why, and he still investigates the nature around us.

Two weeks ago he and I took a bike road to a small forrest not far away. It's an interesting place, a nature reserve with some giant trees and viking graves. No timber is taken from this reserve and old trees are allowed to rotten and fall down, so insects can establish habitats and "life go on".

Peaking down in a hole in a rotten tree is both scaring and exciting for DS8. He expect the worst (zombies and snakes?) but is happy when he finds nothing but ants and other bugs.

Do you, like me, have some old scrap stuff stoved away you never have had the heart to toss out? Among other old stuff, I have a collection of micro beads, and I wanted to play with them again! It was just as messy as I remembered but maybe more fun than last time! New tecniques, materials and styles has developed during the past years, and I'm definitely using the beads differently than back then.

The Love Game collection from Glitz Design had the (in my opinion) perfect colors for the photo of DS8 and the theme - masculine but still soft. The brads are just as old as my beads, and the red alpha from SEI not new either - I hoarded them when they was at clearance at a web shop. This layout is btw based on this sketch on the Glitz blog.

So tell me, have you pulled out some old stuff and played with it lately? Do you use it differently than you did when it was "in"?

I have had a mysterious increase in hits on my blog for the last weeks. When I went through the statistics I found that searchs on a porn site for "Girls just want to have fun" gave this increase. Dang! That wasn't my intention when I chose my blog titles! I wonder if those searching through the porn sites got a major surprise, and was disapointed big time, when they found nothing but layouts and cards on my blog *lol*. Well, it might be time to find new blog titles - I will do that when I write my next blog post!

Girls just want to have fun - and so do boys too! My boys, including my hubby, is very much into anything with engines and that includes Monster Trucks. I went to a show two years ago with the kids - this year DS11 would rather play golf on that spesific show afternoon, so hubby and DS8 went alone. I don't recall what I did. Scrapped?

I told you about the photo swap we had at my ScrapbookNook, a real fun challenge. But a few weeks earlier we had a card kit challenge: send a card kit to a fellow scrapper, receive one back and have fun creating cards with what you got!

My kitten is a SHE, and I promise you: I have never, ever heard her complain about beeing bored. Even in winter time, when she finds it to cold to stay out, she has a lot of activities going on: shuffle lego parts, do furniture agility, hunt the dog's tail etc etc. And in summer time we hardly see her at all: she is a great hunter and has dragged a numberless frogs and mice to the house. Like Saturday evening when she brought this little dude home to play with.

I'm not sure the little mouse found here play as amusing as she did, and honestly - I don't think he saw the sun rise on Sunday morning....

When I saw the clip, I thought of our visit to Oscarsborg some weeks ago, where my mum and aunt, both around 70, were climbing around and absolutely not behaving like oldies are supposed to. Oldies don't climb, do they?

Here are two girls who know how to have fun: The pretty one to the right is my fellow MyScrapbooknook DT'er Anna Sigga from Iceland, and the more crinkled one to the left is me!

Anna was in Norway last weekend and took her time to seeing me - it's always interesting and fun meeting people IRL, not just on the forums! And Anna is just as sweet as you would think she is. And she is an awesome scrapper, too! Here is a link to her blog.

Fun girls deserves beeing scrapped with fun papers. This line is Fine and Dandy from MME, and this layout is my entry for their Blog Challenge #24. I added some white CS and some alphas but the rest is from the collection, except the clips which are from an older Christmas line :-)

Girls just wanna have fun - part 2

Some times I'm worse than a 6 years old: I start thinking on my own and end up with questions like this: "Do dogs ever have fun?"

I know what motivates my dog and how to make her work with me, and she acts like she's enjoying it, but is she having FUN? Do dogs ever look at other dogs and if the other dogs fail, do they laught at it? Do dogs tell jokes to each other, using their doggy sign language? If there are more dogs together, do one of the dogs say to the others: "Hey, let's have some fun!" Is chasing cats FUN?

I don't know. What do you think?

My dog is a teaser while beeing in season, but I don't think she is doing it for fun, it's more her instincts. Our neighbour has a Bichon Frisee male dog named Lucky. Our garden is fenced in, so it's quite safe to let my dog into the garden even when she is in season. Poor Lucky, who is on the other side of the fence: Scoobie is constantly up in his face, making sure he knows where she is and what he is missing... Bad girl...

This layout is made with the sketch from Once Upon A Sketch's June 1th challenge. The journaling criteria this time is ".... to journal about a female. It can be ANYONE...your self, your best friend, your daughter,grandma, mum, sister, cat. ...As long as you write at least 2 sentences about the female in the photo (you can always create a CARD or ALTERED item based on this sketch and use a quote instead) . All materials are from My ScrapbookNook's June Kit except white CS, butterfly and glass beads. I have colored the flowers with chalk, here is a short tutorial I have made about it.

Girl just wanna have fun - part 1

Det er derfor jeg har vært borte fra bloggeverdenen en stund - jeg har vært så innmari opptatt med å ha det gøy: gjøre husarbeid, jobbe, kjøre unger til fotball- og seiltrening osv osv :-) Du vet hva jeg mener?
Men jeg innrømmer, det har vært tid til å scrappe også.

That's why I have been away from the blog world for a while - I have been super busy doing fun stuff like house work, working, drive kids to and from soccer and sailing practice etc etc:-) You know what I mean? But I admit it, it has been time to scrap too.

Jeg har stor glede av å surfe rundt og titte på hva andre gjør, og utfordringsblogger gir meg ofte ideer til såvel titler, design og fargebruk. det eneste som er noe dritt er at Blogger ikke alltid gir meg lov å kommentere. Så det kan godt være at jeg har vært innom deg uten at du vet det.

I'm really enjoying surfing around, watching what others do, and challenge blogs often kick starts me by giving me ideas for titles, designs and color combos. The only thing that really sucks is that Blogger not always allows me to comment at the moment. So I might have visited your blog without you knowing.

Denne måneden fikke jeg prøve meg på noe jeg aldri har gjort før: hos My ScrapbookNook har vi hatt en foto swap, altså skulle vi scrappe noen andres bilder. Jeg skulle scrappe Sarahs bilder, og hun var så søt at hun sendte meg bilder av datter Kaci, slik at "jeg skulle få scrappe i rosa". Jeg som stort sett scrapper om gutter, syntes jo dette er helt konge!

This month I got to try out something I never have done before: at My ScrapbookNook we had a photo swap: you are supposed to scrap somebody else's photos. I got to scrap Sarah's photos, and she was super kind and sent me some pictures of her daughter Kaci so "I could finally scrap with pink".

Jeg fikk ideen til designet fra Skissedillaskisse nr 115. Kaci har dilla på filmen Tangled om dagen, og på bildene har hun på seg Raspunzel-kostymet sitt, og hva var da mer naturlig enn å gå på med rosa, blomster, bling, perler og alt som er en prinsesse verdig og litt eventyaktig?

I had the idea for the design from sketch #115 at Skissedilla. Kaci has a crush on the movie Tangled, and on the pictures she is wearing her Raspunzel outfit. It felt quite natural to add pink, flowers, bling, pearls and other stuff a princess worthy and to get the fairy tale feeling on the layout.

Sarah sier hun liker layouten, og det samme gjorde Kaci, og jeg hadde det moro, så da kan vi vel leve lykkelig i noen dager til! Og jeg vet det er mere moro i vente på forumet til MyScrapbookNook, så da skal jeg jaggu ha det enda mere moro! har du lyst å bli med?

Sarah says she likes the layout, and so did Kaci - and I had fun, so I suppose we can live happily ever after for another few days! And I know there are more fun stuff coming up at the forum at MyScrapbookNook, so then I can have even more fun! Do you want to join me?
